Student Conduct and Academic Integrity
NHS serves to honor students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Each member of the organization is expected to uphold these values through integrity, honesty, trust, fairness, and respect towards peers and community. Students found in violation of the PfISD Student Code of Conduct are subject to disciplinary action, which could result in removal from the organization. Please review the Chapter Bylaws and the Honor Code for specific descriptions and examples of these violations.
Academic Integrity Violations
When chapter advisers receive information regarding suspected violations of the student honor code, they will work with the faculty and staff to investigate the situation and, if appropriate, will confront the student(s) involved.
What will happen if I am found responsible for committing a violation of the Student Code of Conduct?
The circumstances and evidence that are the basis for a suspicion of academic dishonesty or other violations of the Pflugerville ISD Student Code of Conduct will be considered by the Faculty Advisory Council. If a student is found responsible for a violation, consequences may include Probation, Suspension, or Dismissal. The FAC may also suspend certain chapter privileges, remove the student from chapter office, request that the student perform additional school or community service, or receive special counseling.
Will I be automatically removed from NHS for violating the Student Code of Conduct?
A member can never be dismissed automatically for failing to maintain standards, not meeting member obligations, or even being found guilty of violating school rules or the law. A written notification and hearing are called for in Article X, Section 4 and the hearing will be conducted by the faculty council to dismiss a member.
The hearing is identified in the NHS Constitution as a right of membership; is guaranteed as due process; and requires the chapter to notify the member of the action being contemplated, the reasons for the action, the date and time of the hearing, and the opportunity for the member to respond either in writing or orally. As stated in Article VIII, Section 7, a student who is dismissed or who resigns is never again eligible for membership in NHS.
